The True Test of Giving
97. The True Test of Giving
This passage introduces a new metric by which we might measure “giving.” What counts is an inner attitude, not an outward act. Rich people who give to good causes are doing good work, no question. But little is required of them personally.
What does it mean to give? True giving is an altruistic act. It is putting the needs of the small “I” second to the expanded ‘I” – the “I” that is one with everyone else. The suggestion is to look for opportunities to give that are not easy, that require something personal from us and that take us out of our comfort zone. That is true giving.
